October 16th, 2025 – No Chasing Dreams Tonight

Spread the love

No dreams tonight. No stage.

Had a really good day. Got some personal stuff happening that makes me happy. Not going to talk about it out of respect, but it was a solid day all around.

Left work. Hit Smart Recovery. Decent group. Nothing special.

Then I drove over to Steve’s Hot Dogs, expecting open mic night.

The Showcase Surprise

Got there and it wasn’t an open mic. It was a showcase with five comics doing 20-minute sets each. I stayed for one of them, then bounced. Checked Platypus. Nothing. Checked Helium. Nothing.

No open mics anywhere in St. Louis tonight.

That’s it. That’s the story.

When Logistics Win

I didn’t expect logistics to be one of the hardest parts of this project.
On paper, two mics a week sounds easy. Show up, sign up, go on stage.

In reality, sometimes the mic you planned for is a showcase. Sometimes the sign-up list’s full before you get there. Sometimes the city just doesn’t have a stage open that night.

I showed up tonight. I looked. I tried. Logistics won.

The Next Three Weeks

Next week’s gonna be a little wild. I’ll hit Purple Quarters on Tuesday, then I’m gone for work. Traveling for an agency thing. The next few weeks will be spotty and I probably won’t hit my two mics a week until I’m back.

Then holidays hit. So who knows. But I’ll keep showing up when I can.

This Isn’t Failure

I’m not beating myself up over this.
This isn’t a lack of discipline. It’s just logistics.

When I started this journey, I knew life would get in the way sometimes. Holidays, travel, real life. Commitment doesn’t mean perfection. It means honesty.

Tonight, I showed up. There was no stage.
That’s not failure. That’s reality.

What Commitment Really Means

Commitment isn’t about flawless execution. It’s about truth.
It’s checking three venues when the first one doesn’t work out.
It’s showing up even when the odds are low.
It’s admitting when life demands your time somewhere else.

A boxer’s discipline isn’t just about training every day. It’s also knowing when to rest, when to heal, and when to focus on life outside the ring.

That’s how I’m approaching this.
Two mics a week when logistics allow.
Honesty when they don’t.

Moving Forward

Purple Quarters next Tuesday. Then travel. Then holidays. Then back to the grind.

The mission doesn’t change.
Keep showing up.
Keep telling the truth.
Keep moving forward.

Some nights you chase the dream.
Some nights you just drive around looking for the stage and go home when it’s not there.

Both count.
