Rewinding the Tape: When Life Hits Fast Forward
August 19th, 2025
You know those days where everything feels like it’s moving at warp speed, and you need to hit the rewind button just to make sense of it all? Yeah, that was today.
Let me work backwards from where I’m sitting right now—home from the Purple Quarters, trying to process a day that packed about three months’ worth of emotions into twelve hours.
The Big Goodbye (That’s Not Really Goodbye)
My daughter moves to her dorm tomorrow. I won’t use her real name here, but damn if this isn’t hitting me harder than I expected. It’s that perfect storm of pride, sadness, and the weird realization that eighteen years just flew by in what feels like eighteen minutes.
Here’s the kicker: in the middle of our divorce proceedings, her mom and I are actually communicating better than we have in years. Life’s funny like that—sometimes it takes falling apart to figure out how to talk to each other again. We had a good conversation today, and that felt… well, it felt like something.
The Life-Changer on the Horizon
Then there’s this deal. The big one I’ve been working toward for longer than I care to admit. The kind that could completely reshape what my day-to-day looks like and finally let me focus on the work that actually matters to me. It’s massive, it’s terrifying, and it brought up every emotion I thought I had locked away.
Had to make one of those calls today—you know the kind. When you need someone who’s walked through similar fire to remind you that you can handle the heat. Sometimes you need that anchor, that voice that says “Yeah, this is intense, but you’ve got this.”
The Show Must Go On
In between all the life-changing stuff, knocked out two solid interviews for the Clicks and Bricks podcast. It’s wild how normal work stuff just keeps rolling along when your personal world feels like it’s doing backflips.
The Real Talk
Here’s what I’m sitting with: change is messy, even when it’s good change. Your kid growing up and moving out? That’s supposed to be a win, but it feels like losing something too. A business deal that could change everything? Should be pure excitement, but it comes with this weight of “what if I’m not ready?”
And somehow, learning to communicate better with your ex while you’re getting divorced? That’s just life serving up irony with a side of hope.
Some days you don’t get to process things in order. Sometimes you just have to rewind the tape and piece it together as best you can.
Tomorrow’s a new day. The dorm move happens, the deal keeps moving forward, and life keeps doing what it does—throwing curveballs when you’re expecting fastballs.
But hey, that’s why we Cox Out. To make sense of the chaos, one rewind at a time.
